First and foremost the most important thing when it comes to nutrition is understanding it and not following what the world is following. Just because something is on-trend and is working for others, doesn't mean it will work for you and accepting that is vital. We are all different individuals biologically and so our body and its internal mechanisms are also different from others. So simply popping supplements, or having whey protein, or drinking a glass of warm water with lemon in it first thing in the morning, would not take you anywhere. I have fall prey to all these gimmicks and I just want to save you some trouble by sharing my experience.

What would work for you is understanding the nature of your body and metabolism and then taking a rational decision of the food you eat. Starving never makes you thin, and only eating banana milkshake won't help you gain any weight, which will show up as muscles one good day! Those things mostly happen in those early morning dreams. To achieve the 'dream body' you have to first stop dreaming and start understanding the food to the nutrient mechanism. Trust me when I say it is the key to all!

So for starters, we need to find out how much calories does our body needs to function properly. Please go to the link and measure it for yourself.

Now before we go into any more details, understand it is not an exam where you pass or fail, the first step to staying healthy is accepting yourself just the way you are. In order to start eating healthy or just better than what you are currently consuming, you have to start with a positive mindset and remember nothing gives you more positivity than acceptance.

So, now you know roughly how much your calorie intake should be for basic maintenance. Congratulations you have successfully taken your first step towards nutrition. Now you are an aware individual, who knows how much he/she should eat in a day. This particular step forms the base of your food habits. Whatever you should eat or avoid is decided based on this number.

Take some time and digest this information now! Also, please try to understand the fact that losing or gaining weight, doesn't only depend on the calories you consume, it also depends on how active you are and what quality and quantity of sleep you are getting. There are 'n' other factors that contribute to it like stress, any underlying health condition, the quality of the food you are consuming, etc. But according to studies in general diet contributes to a huge aspect of your body functioning and metabolism.

Another thing which we often forget is, things take time. Just like how even if you work diligently throughout, you get the bonus at the year-end appraisal, and not every time you do some extra work, results take time when you start eating healthy. All good things take time. If you are putting effort into a process, understand the fact that it will take time, so have patience, and have faith in it.
