“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing.” – Harper Lee
Has reading been something that you always despise or avoid because you are not sure why you should actually do it? Well, here I have got 10 good reasons for you to give it a try, and trust me you won't be disappointed.
1. Policies
Your good old policies, they still reach out to you as documents. Yes, we all secretly wish if we could have a video version of it, where we could just plug in and listen to what they had to say, but if we think practically it is not going to happen any sooner. Policies are big, crazy documents that are made as such so that you miss that small loophole which can save you a heck lot of trouble.
2. Builds Vocabulary
We all remember that joke Biswa cracked on 'the phenomenal gig' Yes, a good vocabulary is like that badge you always want to show off, and to be honest, it helps you create a good rapport too. We all know that girl who knows a few extra words for which we need to reach out to the dictionary but still end up admiring her secretly. Well let me tell you her secret, she reads!
3. Broadens imagination
When for a topic you see a video, a picture is pretty much painted for you, but when on the same topic you read a book you draw your own picture. Indeed, it takes more effort, but do you know the things you read stays in your memory for longer?
4. Stress Buster
I know what you are thinking after reading the heading, who would like to read when they are stressed? Well, next time just give it a try. It makes you calm and composed as you have to focus to read. So it shifts your focus from that thing that is contributing to your stress, thus, making you feel a lot better.
5. Good for your eyes
Well, books are old school but they are your eyes' best buddy. Unlike those blue lights that you are continually exposing your eyes too, books have a tint of yellow in their pages which are optimum for your eyes. So, whether you like it or not, your eyes love to read. 😉
6. Aids Sleep
Yes, at the end of the day when you read a book or anything for that matter, it can help you reach that good night's sleep. Many therapists recommend patients with insomnia, books instead of sleeping pills. Hmmm!! at least I wish they did, it truly works.
7. Sets an example for kids
Well, I have heard so many parents complain that their kids get stuck with mobile devices, tablets, or laptops. Well during the initial stages of the behavior development of a kid, your kid simply copies what you do. So the next time you expect your child to pick that book you had bought him months back, pick a book yourself, it won't be long until he gets his hands on his book that he has been avoiding.
8. Improves Focus and concentration
Reading needs focus, it's like an exercise for your mind. Some people even compare reading to meditation. It helps you in the long run by improving your focus and concentration.
9. Protects against late-life cognitive decline
Who likes to even think about forgetting the names of the people you love or the pair of your glasses which you had on the top of your head but looked around the house to find it. It is believed that prolonged reading can protect against late-life cognitive decline and can even prevent or at least help in the early detection of Alzheimer's.
10. Because it's cool!
We all gobble over those pretty feeds where you see those models holding that book or that entrepreneur who says that he loves to read. Well if the above-mentioned 9 reasons did not motivate you, do it because it's the new cool 😎
If your reason for reading is not included in my list, do let me know, I would love to see you in the comment section below! Till the next post, follow your bliss!!
